Academic Programs in Acquisition

Many higher education institutions offer academic programs and courses related to the acquisition field. For institutions in your area, search their course catalogs for acquisition, contracting, procurement, or purchasing courses.

To enter the acquisition field at the professional level in the Federal Government, an individual must have either a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution OR 24 college level credit hours* in one or more of these areas:

Accounting
Business
Contracts
Economics
Finance
Industrial Management
Law
Marketing
Organization and Management
Purchasing
Quantitative Methods

A higher education degree is NOT necessary to enter the acquisition field in the Federal Government, however, a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution AND 24 college level credit hours* in the fields above ARE REQUIRED in order to advance to senior levels.

*For Department of Defense positions, both a degree and the 24 college level credit hours are required for all levels of contracting professionals.
