Written Responses to Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) Questions

Some agencies require you to submit written responses describing your particular knowledge, skills or abilities relating to specific, job related situations. The application may ask you to "Describe a situation..." or "Tell us more about a time you..." It is important for you to take the time to write a concise, meaningful response to these questions. We recommend using the Situation, Action, Outcome approach in your response. Be sure to use quantifiable terms in your response. In general, agencies will score your responses and assign you a rating between 0 and 100. The agency may have you complete other assessments in addition to the written responses. Be sure to read the vacancy announcement carefully to see which method, or methods, the agency is using. For more tips about KSA writing, click here.
