Handling Conflict
FAC-P/PM Mapping: Meets Conflict Management Aligned Skill under Leadership/Interpersonal Entry Level
Description: No one can complete a working career without experiencing conflict, so it is essential for you to handle this conflict in the most effective way. To handle conflict well, you need to build a repertoire of techniques. These techniques require you to behave differently from your natural instincts at times. Therefore, a good starting point is to establish what your instinctive approaches to conflict are, and where these attitudes stem from. This will enable you to decide on a range of different approaches to conflict, based on a spectrum that goes from being only concerned about your own needs, to only being concerned about other people's needs. This spectrum gives rise to five possible strategies for dealing with conflict. Whatever strategy you apply, some core techniques will make you more effective. These involve three main actions: confronting the conflict, communicating with the other party, and determining an acceptable outcome.

The Earned Value Experience
FAC-P/PM Mapping: Meet FAC-P/PM aligned skills(s) Earned Value Management under business, Cost Estimating & Financial Management competency under Entry Level
Description: Our Earned Value Experience workshop takes the mystery out of applying earned value management on your projects or contracts. When you complete this workshop you will see how estimates of cost and schedule are captured in an EVM Performance Measurement Baseline (PMB), how to analyze the data, and how to estimate the final project cost and completion date. You will also understand the role of control account managers (CAM) and how to determine where to place control accounts within your projects. Integrated Baseline Reviews (IBR) are discussed so that you understand the goals of the IBR and how you might participate. The workshop starts with a discussion of EVM terms, concepts, and applicable regulations and policies. Using our workshop project scenario you will create your project’s PMB using Excel EVM templates. IBRs are shown to address validity of the PMB and project risks. As the project scenario moves from planning to execution you'll determine earned value metrics from project status information. Discussions alternate with workshop exercises as the project performance is analyzed. Variances cost and schedule performance indices, and stoplight charting the project’s performance are covered. Finally forecasts of final cost and completion date are computed. The workshop includes the new “earned schedule” method and “schedule adherence” to help know if the right project work is getting done. This workshop is perfect for cost account managers, contract officers, COTRs, financial and schedule control staff, project and program managers, and chief project officers.
