Migration from FAITAS to FAI Cornerstone OnDemand (CSOD) FAQs

In support of the President's Management Agenda, the Office of Federal Procurement Policy (OFPP), GSA and the FAI Board of Directors are pleased to announce the decision to transition from the Federal Acquisition Institute Training Application System (FAITAS) to the Defense Acquisition University (DAU) instance of Cornerstone OnDemand (CSOD) in FY-21.

Now more than ever, it's critical to have a commercial solution with modern features and technology while also being scalable, and secure. CSOD offers the acquisition workforce a cloud-based, commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) solution with a design based on best practices for an improved user experience. As with all changes, we want to ensure all users are informed and have access to FAQs which will be updated regularly.

PREPARE FOR THE TRANSITION

What is the transition timeline?

The Grand Opening of FAI CSOD is scheduled for June 2021.

What can I do now to start preparing for the transition?

After business hours on May 14, 2021, FAITAS will no longer be available. At that time, FAI will begin transferring courses, certification records, and other data from FAITAS to FAI CSOD. Be sure to complete the following steps before the afternoon of May 14.

NOTE: To ensure adequate time to complete reviews or course completions, individual agency Acquisition Career Managers (ACMs) and teaching schools may implement earlier deadlines. Please contact the individual ACM or teaching school for more information.

  1. Log into your FAITAS account and verify the accuracy of your FAITAS profile information (e.g., email address, organization, supervisor). This information will be used to set up your FAI CSOD account. If your information is inaccurate in FAITAS, it will be inaccurate in FAI CSOD.

NOTE: Your listed supervisor must have an active FAITAS account and you may not select someone who has selected your account as their supervisor.

  2. Complete all workflows in FAITAS, including certification, specialization, and warrant applications. Incomplete actions must be restarted in FAI CSOD after migration. You should not download historical documents that were uploaded into FAITAS (eg. resumes, transcripts, etc..).
  3. Complete Online Training (OLT) Courses. If you begin an OLT course in FAITAS, you must complete it in FAITAS before May 14, or all progress will be lost.

How do you pronounce FAI CSOD?

The "FAI" part is pronounced as an acronym "F-A-I." The CSOD part is pronounced "C-sod."

What is Cornerstone OnDemand (CSOD)?

Cornerstone OnDemand is a cloud-based learning, talent management and talent experience software.

Will CSOD be just like FAITAS?

CSOD will provide the vast majority of FAITAS’s current functionality, but it will look and feel different to users. FAITAS was built as a custom system for the government. The design was built on the infrastructure of the Army Training Requirements and Resource System (ATRRS) through a series of changes that the government could fund, design, and build. On the other hand, CSOD is a richly-featured, configurable commercial learning management system and is designed based on feedback from thousands of clients and millions of users. We expect all users will rapidly recognize the benefits of its robust, modern design and the regular updates and enhancements provided based on feedback from the entire user base.

What will FAI CSOD offer the acquisition workforce?

FAI CSOD will provide Acquisition Workforce (AWF) members with a modern and commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) service that is reliable and consistently updated based on best practices. FAI CSOD provides the following benefits:

  • Reliable Access: Commercial cloud-based system that maintains 99.9% uptime.
  • Modern Interface: Industry-leading, intuitive, user-friendly platform.
  • Standard Features: Functionality developed based upon industry- wide best practices and feedback from more than 6,000 global clients and over 75 million users.
  • Continuous Enhancements: Regular upgrades to support millions of users across private and public sectors at no additional cost.
  • Secure Transfer: DAU has successfully transitioned multiple government organizations to CSOD and has proven performance in securely migrating users’ profiles and data.
  • Familiar Experience: Many FAITAS users have taken classes through DAU’s CSOD and are familiar with its student guides, task aids, training, and other resources.

What browser should I use to access FAI CSOD?

You will need to use one of the following browsers to access FAI CSOD:

  • Microsoft Edge for Windows 10 (Microsoft Edge Chromium)
  • Apple Safari
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Google Chrome

Note: Internet Explorer (IE) is NOT supported by FAI CSOD.

Will I be able to use my Personal Identity Verification (PIV) card to login?

FAI plans to have PIV authentication capability. Initial login to FAI CSOD will be with your DAU username and password. PIV card login will be evaluated after the June transition.

Will I be able to print copies of my course completion certificates and acquisition certifications?

Yes. CSOD supports printing course completion certificates and certifications. However, the format may differ from what currently exists in FAITAS.

Is CSOD 508 compliant? Is CSOD content 508 compliant?

CSOD is 508 compliant. The user pages of the Cornerstone system are generally compliant with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, depending on the features used and the way the client has configured its portal. The Cornerstone system is compliant with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 Level AA. This ensures that all user features are accessible to people with disabilities. Cornerstone maintains support for the latest version of JAWS screen reading software.

Individual content providers must verify 508 compliance for their course content prior to upload.

Will there be any training, resources, or guidance available to help me learn and navigate the new system?

Yes. Many of you may have already taken classes through DAU's CSOD and may be familiar with their student guides, task aids and other resources. Similar materials will be available within FAI CSOD to help you learn and navigate the new system.

Will there be help desk support available?

Yes. Contact the Defense Acquisition University (DAU) Help Desk for the following types of issues.

  • FAI CSOD system questions and issues
  • FAI CSOD system errors and troubleshooting
  • Password issues and resets

Will all current FAI LMS content be moved to CSOD?

Most of the FAI LMS content will be moved to CSOD. FAI is working to prioritize course changes needed prior to uploading into CSOD. However, courses containing Flash-based content that does not meet security requirements will not be uploaded. In addition, some courses with out-of-date content will not be moved to CSOD.

Is hosted training available to everyone or can training availability be limited by organization?

Organizational restrictions can be set on availability. As an example, DAU currently hosts courses for the Navy. They are only available to students under the Navy’s organization. Courses that are not available to the organization will not appear in the students catalog, but administrators can still edit course information and run reports.

Are there increased license fees associated with hosting courses in CSOD?

CSOD's license fees are based on the number of active users. FAI purchased licenses for active acquisition workforce members based upon FAITAS account data. There is no additional license cost for loading course content. However, agencies are responsible for ensuring content for upload is SCORM and 508 compliant and agencies may incur learning administration costs associated with uploading courses.

Does CSOD support course evaluations and is there a cost for agencies to use them?

Yes. CSOD supports Kirkpatrick level 1, 2, and 3 evaluations. Evaluations are assigned at the session or online class level.  Default levels can be set, but others can be added as well. Evaluations are included in the CSOD licenses FAI purchased, so no additional costs are incurred for agencies.

Will CSOD be able to support agency or bureau specific certifications?

Yes. Like courses, CSOD can limit the availability of certifications to members of a specific organization.

Can workflow be configured in CSOD and can it include email notifications?

Yes. CSOD supports approval workflows including email notifications. Default workflows will be established by subject matter experts prior to system launch. Workflows can be updated through the workflow configuration interface.

What administration rights are given to teaching schools and what will be restricted to DAU or FAI administrators?

During configuration, DAU and FAI will work with stakeholders to determine the roles and capabilities appropriate for all agencies, including teaching schools.

Will FAI retire the FAITAS Change Advisory Board and institute an FAI CSOD group for transition and sustainment?

CSOD differs from FAITAS since it is a commercial vs. custom built system. Unlike FAITAS, CSOD is Software as a Service (SaaS) solution that we configure to meet our requirements as opposed to the build and change process for a system like FAITAS. We will still rely on subject matter experts from federal agencies to provide requirements and advise configure changes requests. FAI will update the CAB charter to reflect the shift from a change advisory board to configuration advisory group. FAI will provide guidance to agencies regarding the path forward both during and after the migration to CSOD.

If an agency wants to add functionality, can they pay for it directly and limit its availability to their organization?

CSOD capabilities can be configured by organization, but that is outside the scope of the current project and would be completed through future contract(s).

Where can I find the draft user guides for acceptance testing?
