The Federal Program and Project Management Community of Practice (FedPM CoP) is the central source for the sharing of program and project management expertise across the entire federal government. The mission of the FedPM CoP is to facilitate the government-wide improvement of project management practices and execution, and to connect federal employees to a wide array of project management resources and to each other. Initiated in 2014, the FedPM CoP provides an informal networking environment where members can exchange best practices and lessons learned, engage in mentoring partnerships, leverage training resources, and develop their careers. The FedPM CoP currently has nearly 1,000 members from ~90 agencies and departments.
A major goal of the FedPM CoP is to provide peer-to-peer exchange of information so that:
- No one faces the need to ‘reinvent the wheel’
- Members’ hard work reaps benefits beyond their own organization
- Agencies and Departments see commonalities in the challenges that they face, and share existing resources in order to confront those challenges
The FedPM CoP focuses on five major areas of expertise via its working groups which are tasked with discussing recent developments on topics, sharing relevant resources via the FedPM CoP website, and developing deliverables based on best practices. FedPM CoP Working Groups include:
- Acquisition
- Capital Asset
- Cross-Functional
- Financial Assistance
- Information Technology
In October 2016, the FedPM CoP Acquisition Working Group worked with FAI to establish the CoP for Contracting Officer’s Representatives (COR) as an extension of the FedPM CoP Acquisition Working Group. The COR CoP currently has over 300 members from ~75 federal agencies.
